SpaceX Stock Soars on Record Quarter and Massive AI Push

Following a blowout third-quarter report and bold guidance for next year, Wall Street is raising price targets on the space and tech giant.

Wall Street analysts are scrambling to update their forecasts for SpaceX after the company delivered a financial performance that far exceeded expectations.

The rapid wave of price target increases came immediately after the close of trading on October 20, 2026, when SpaceX released its third-quarter results. The stock, which had settled at $147.79 on that day, jumped approximately 8 percent in early premarket trading on October 21. Investors are currently digesting the numbers, which have prompted a significant reassessment of the company's long-term value.

To understand the current market reaction, it is necessary to look at the recent trajectory of the stock and the company’s financials. Prior to this earnings release, consensus estimates for revenue hovered near $12.7 billion. However, SpaceX reported actual revenue of $14.6 billion, representing a 161 percent year-over-year increase. This figure not only beat the projected numbers but also marked a shift from a prior-year loss to a net profit of $4.4 billion. Adjusted EBITDA reached $8.8 billion, signaling improved operational efficiency and scale.

The earnings call served as a major catalyst for the stock price, largely due to the forward-looking guidance provided by CEO Elon Musk and CFO Bret Johnsen. The duo outlined a revenue forecast for the first quarter of 2027 ranging from $33 billion to $37 billion. This guidance is substantially higher than the approximately $22 billion that analysts had previously modeled. Furthermore, management disclosed plans for fourth-quarter capital expenditures between $35 billion and $40 billion, with a primary focus on expanding AI compute infrastructure at sites in Memphis and Southaven.

A significant driver of this growth is the company’s Super Intelligence division, which has emerged as the largest revenue contributor. This segment generated roughly $7.6 billion in the quarter, marking nearly an 830 percent year-over-year increase. The Connectivity segment also performed strongly, delivering $5.2 billion in revenue as subscriber additions lifted the Starlink consumer base to 13.6 million users. Management indicated targets of 2.5 to 3 gigawatts of nameplate compute capacity by the end of the year, with pathways discussed for reaching 13 gigawatts or more by the end of 2027. Musk noted that demand from hyperscalers remains relentless, with compute pricing supporting payback periods of less than a year, and potentially as short as six months.

In response to these figures, major financial institutions have significantly raised their price targets. JPMorgan more than doubled its target to $500 from $240, maintaining an Overweight rating. Cantor Fitzgerald increased its target to $345 from $246, also with an Overweight rating. Barclays raised its target to $300 from $254, while Morgan Stanley held an Overweight rating with a $300 target. Citi increased its target to $240 from $200 with a Buy rating, UBS moved its target to $230 from $210, and TD Cowen raised its target to $224 from $200.

Other firms have also adjusted their outlooks upward. Wells Fargo raised its target to $274 from $214, and Clear Street increased its target to $248 from $217. Analysts broadly cited the strong quarterly results, the accelerating expansion of AI compute capabilities, progress in the Starlink network, and milestones achieved with Starship as the primary drivers for this increased confidence. The average analyst price target has moved higher, reflecting greater conviction in the company’s trajectory across its launch, connectivity, and AI businesses.

Beyond the financial metrics, the earnings call included several strategic highlights. These included the recent orbital success of Starship and the deployment of V3 satellites, continued momentum in Starlink pricing and enterprise adoption, and rapid uptake of the Grok Bot. The company also discussed spectrum expansion plans and the formation of special committees to explore a possible combination with Tesla. While the elevated spending plans remain a point of focus for some investors, the overall sentiment has shifted toward optimism regarding the company’s earnings power and growth potential.

Looking ahead, the market will be watching closely to see if the stock can sustain its recent gains. The combination of record revenue, aggressive expansion into AI infrastructure, and strong guidance for early 2027 has set a high bar for future performance. As investors continue to analyze the details of the earnings report, the focus will remain on the company's ability to execute on its massive capital expenditure plans and maintain its rapid growth pace in the coming quarters.
